Sierra Dorpinghaus grew up in the small town of Monticello, Florida, where horses were always part of her life. She loves birds and other animals as well. Sierra started working in the field of veterinary medicine in 2009, at another animal hospital in Tallahassee. She joined our team in 2011, and working here provides her an opportunity to grow her love for animals every day. She now lives in Cairo with her husband, Stephen, and her two cats, Nermanl and Dansby.
Kimberly Green joined our team in November, 2007, with many years of prior experience at other veterinary hospitals and the Humane Society. Kim has three grown children- son Richard, and two daughters, Georgia and Jessie, and two grandchildren, Karena and Dallas. All Kim's children grew up in 4-H, and showed livestock for many years. Kim and her husband, Ken, share their home with Schatzie, Jackie, Turtle, and Hobo, the cats. Kim spends her time off with her family and loves going to the beach, camping, and fishing.
Leslie Carr's passion for animals began at an early age, leading her to pursue a career in animal care. Before coming to work for us, Leslie worked at a large scale boarding kennel and volunteered at zoos. When she's not working here, Leslie enjoys nature documentaries and hiking in National Parks. Her free time is also spent enjoying the company of her pets- Frank and Scrappy (the cats), Fred (the Bearded Dragon), and Ozark, her Boxer.
Dr. Janet Ackerman opened the hospital in 1986, with the goal of promoting the health and well-being of companion animals and horses. Jared, her older son, graduated from ABAC, and is working in the field of livestock production. He & his brother, Dustin, grew up in 4-H, both with hogs & steers to show, as well as Shotgun competitions. Dustin graduated from VSU with a degree in Firefighting. The family has three cool horses, Buddy, Breezy, and Mikey (who love to go trail riding), two dogs (Nikko & Lucy, both rescue dogs), and Rascal the cat. Outside the office, Dr. Ackerman and her husband, Gary, both enjoy canoeing, hiking, home improvement projects, wildlife photography, and scuba diving.
Mollie Johnson joined our team in December 2006. She works part time and you can usually see her smiling face on Saturday mornings, at the front desk. Mollie has a kind heart when it comes to being pet friendly, and has adopted many stray and orphaned dogs. Gertie is her very special Old English Bulldog, who doesn't know she's a dog. Mollie understands that your pet is really a part of the family and will be dearly loved and cared for by the AMC staff.
LeAnne Williamson joined our team in March, 2011. LeAnne works part time for us, while attending Bainbridge College and working toward her LPN degree. LeAnne has two dogs, Anabelle, an English Bulldog, and Heidi, a Boxer. She also has a horse named Cookie. LeAnne enjoys spending time with her family, riding her horse, and traveling.
Lori Ashe has over 30 years of grooming experience and can turn your scruffy pet into a runway model! Her work is beautiful. Lori also teaches our Spring and Fall Obedience Classes here, and makes learning fun for both the dogs and their owners. Her family includes Potbellied pig, Mia Ham, Nina, Toot, the Papillon, "B" the Golden Retriever, Grady the Lab, Rudabaga the cat, 4 horses, Carl & Pugsley (the squirrels), eight chickens, step-daughter, Hannah, and last (but not least!) husband Duane. They live in a farmhouse in Whigham, and participate in Rendezvous events where people relive the lifestyle of Colonial times. Lori is also training her dogs and pig (yes, really!) to perform in Agility trials, and doing splendidly. Nina, who was recused from abandonment as a puppy, and Toot are both well on their way to achieving Agility Champion titles with both AKC and UKC, and Grady is following close behind in their pawprints.
Bonnie Smith is one of the voices on the phone when you call. She is our receptionist some days, and the bookkeeper on others. Her husband, Rickey, works at GMC Finance. Daughters Jennifer and Kerri are still close by. Each have sons of their own, and grandsons Justin, Jakson, and Jaken are the lights of Bonnie's life! Occasional orphaned birds, puppies, or kittens are her extended family. Doodle Bug is her most famous pet; he came to our office after being abandoned and near death in a dumpster. Bonnie's TLC saved him, and he has turned into a happy, healthy member of the family. Doodle is featured on a few other pages here on our website.
Connie Blackman missed our group photo op, so she gets her own! She is our "on-call" receptionist, and works some Saturday mornings for us. Connie also works with the State of Florida in the Department of Health, Children's Medical Services on weekdays. Connie is originally from Havana, Florida, lived almost 25 years in Tallahassee, then relocated to Cairo in November, 2006. Presently her pets include three dogs--a happy Mini-Schnauzer mix named Scooter, an energetic Springer Spaniel named Caileigh, and a newly acquired rescue dog named Lady, along with two cats, Buddy and Harry. Most of her pets were saved from a Humane Society or adopted from AMC. Connie's hobbies include scrapbooking, greeting cards, and riding her motorcycle.
